Ways to Reset Your Tire Pressure Light

Typically, after properly inflating your tires, the tire pressure light should reset itself automatically. However, there are a couple ways for how to reset the tire pressure light, so you can get back on McAllen streets safely:

  • After inflating your tires, hop on McAllen-area highway and drive at or above 50 mph for 10 minutes to reset the sensor. The next time you start the car, the TPMS light should reset.
  • Before starting the vehicle, turn the key to the “On” position without starting the car. Then, hold the TPMS reset button until the light flashes three times, then release it. Next, start the vehicle and wait for 20 minutes for the sensor to reset. To locate the TPMS reset button, check the vehicle’ owner’s manual, but it is typically located underneath the steering wheel.
  • When the TPMS light is on, try inflating each tire 3 PSI over the recommended amount, then completely deflate them. Finally, inflate them to their tire pressure. Some spare tires are connected to the TPMS sensors, so be sure to include the spare in the over inflation, deflation, and reinflation.
  • If you still notice the TPMS light on, turn off the vehicle and pop the hood to reach the battery terminals, and disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Start the vehicle, and press the horn for about three seconds to discharge any excess power stored in the vehicle, then reconnect the battery.
