• 77 Flea Market: For a taste of Mexico without crossing the board, the 77 Flea Market is a one-of-a-kind experience. Shop for clothing, jewelry, toys, and more, from a diverse set of vendors. Make sure you come hungry as there’s tons of delicious food to try. 
• Stillman House: Part of the Brownsville Historical Association, this museum provides insights into the life of Charles Stillman, one of the city’s founders, and offers a glimpse into 19th-century life. Built in 1850, the house features period furnishings and exhibits detailing Brownsville’s evolution through the years. 
• Historic Brownsville Museum: Located in the former Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, this museum tells the story of Brownsville’s past, from the U.S.-Mexican War to the Civil war and the city’s development as a key border town. Built in the Spanish colonial architectural style, the museum includes exhibits related to local history, agriculture, and the city’s multi-cultural heritage. 
• Brownsville Museum of Fine Art: With over 350 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and photographs, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art showcases both local and international artists. The museum is located in the heart of the Mitte Cultural District and offers music classes, art classes, studio space, workshops, and more. 

Things to Do for Free

When you need entertainment but don’t want to spend a dime, check out these free things to do in Brownsville TX: 

• Monte Bella Trails Park: Located in the West Alton Gloor area of Brownsville, Monte Bella Trails Park has a little bit of something for everyone. The park has a ton of trails, open green spaces, wooded areas, picnic areas, a playground, and an outdoor fitness area. There’s also a 6.2-mile bike trail that starts at the north end of the park and goes counterclockwise. And finally, there’s a disc golf course that goes through the park, with both long and short concrete tee pads and 21 baskets. 
• Starbase: One of the most unique things to do in Brownsville TX is to visit Starbase, SpaceX’s launch site just outside the city near Boca Chica Beach. Starbase is where SpaceX does its Starship testing and development. Although there is no official area for visitors, you can park outside the facility to watch launches. Just make sure you don’t trespass on SpaceX property. 
• Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park: In the U.S.-Mexican War, Palo Alto Battlefield was where the very first battle took place. But the Palo Alto Battlefield is more than just an important historical site. It also serves as a refuge for animals and plant life native to the area. Come see historical reenactments and miles of coastal prairie full of a diverse set of flora and fauna. 
• Boca Chica Beach: Twenty miles east of Brownsville, off Highway 4, you’ll find one of Brownsville’s best kept secrets: a white sand beach right on the Gulf of Mexico. Aside from the usual fishing, swimming, boating, or birdwatching, you can also drive along the beach in your Jeep, truck, or other street-licensed vehicles to take in the views. Just make sure your vehicle has four-wheel drive so it doesn’t get stuck in the dunes.
